FLASH… DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND FRONTERA WILL BE OPEN ON NEW YEAR’S DAY

Frontera will be open regular hours (8a.m. till 4p.m.) on Saturday Jan. 1 and visitors are invited for coffee and sweets in the Visitors’ Center before heading out to start the New Year right with a walk in the Thicket and a stroll through the Butterfly Gardens.  Much clean-up is being done in the front beds at Frontera, and replastering has begun on the walls of the Texas Historic Landmark Skaggs House.  2011 is bright and shiny with many opportunities for visitors and volunteers at Frontera!!

I’ve worked at Frontera for about a year and have seen it grow into a prime nature sanctuary. Much of the revitalization of Frontera is due to the hardwork and dedicated efforts of volunteers along with the unwavering support of Frontera’s Board of Directors.

Executive Director Cindy Willson has spearheaded many new, exciting and profitable aspects that have turned Frontera into a even more remarkable place. From community outreach programs such as the “Holiday Open House” many local families now visit Frontera providing vital donations when the Winter Texans leave and friendship’s with local artisans ensure Frontera offers unique items in it’s gift shop.

All of this adds up to Frontera being able to improve the Thicket, Wetlands and Butterfly Gardens with more plants and management. The 1st floor of the Skagg’s House may be renovated to house even more people for special guest events generating more income for Frontera.

Cindy will no longer be the director but she built upon a foundation laid down by people who saw a great future for Frontera. Her work will provide any new directors with a strong base from which they can help Frontera grow and become all it can be.

She’s also the greatest boss I’ve ever had.

    * A special note to Secretary Chris Warren*

She has been instrumental in Frontera getting it’s paperwork in order and without her there would not have been money to get anything done.

    Thank you very much Chris.
