September

Every Friday 10 a.m. join us for a walk in the Thicket led by one of the Valley’s expert naturalists.  Stop by early for coffee.  Free to members.

Saturday, the 11th:  BBQ Fundraiser at Frontera 11 a.m. till 2 p.m.  $6 for a heaping plate of brisket, sausage and all the trimmings.  Cold drinks available.

Sun. the 26th:  “Help Feather Our Nest” evening at the home of Bud and Marlee Payne.  Enjoy live Latin jazz, wine & cheese, and the photography of Michael Delesantro.  Birdnest sculpture by Dallas artist Larry Whiteley to be auctioned.  $50 all inclusive.

October

Every Friday 10 a.m. join us as our walks focus on butterfly migration in our blooming butterfly gardens with noted expert Mike Rickard.  Stop by early for coffee.  Free to members.

Tues., Oct. 26, Noon. Nature and wildlife photographer Bryan Reynolds will speak on the conservation of butterfly habitat at a special “Orchids and Butterflies” luncheon with your meal created by the Fabulous Frontera Bakers.  Enjoy a collection of blooming orchids from Hawaii along with a talk and a walk in Frontera’s butterfly gardens.  Advance registration a must at $20 for lunch and the program.

Wed., Oct. 27, 11 a.m.  Once again, photographer and butterfly conservationist Bryan Reynolds speaks about habitat preservation and leads a butterfly walk for our members.  Admission free.

November

Every Friday, 10 a.m. walk the Thicket with a guide and learn the plants, birds and bugs of urban South Texas.    Stop by early for coffee.  Free to members.

Tuesday, the 9th:  Frontera hosts a RGV Birding Festival pre-function at Weslaco’s Braught Theater.  Come for an intimate evening of birdwatchers’ tales and lore of the natural world with author and guide Jon Dunn.  7 p.m.—9 p.m.  Book signing and dessert to follow.  $10 includes refreshments. Register early.

December

Every Friday 10 a.m. a South Texas winter walk in the Thicket with one of our expert birders introduces you to our year round residents and some interesting migrants.

Sat., December 4:  Frontera’s Annual Holiday Open House and Bake Sale.1 p.m. till 4 p.m.  Visit our gift shop stocked with nature lovers’ treasures.  Tour the Thicket, enjoy live music and baked goods by the Fabulous Frontera Bakers.  Free admission to the grounds for the day.
